Tested by Bella, our Senior Outdoor & Harness Tester – a mature female Goberian (Husky × Golden Retriever) with a fluffy cream-white coat, soft pale eyes and a measured approach to new kit that involves a full inspection before any cooperation is offered. The Saddle Bag in Black L was fitted on a Sunday morning before a three-mile country walk. The chest and neck straps adjusted to Bella’s frame in under two minutes and the mesh back panel sat flat against her coat without bunching. The two side pockets were loaded with a collapsible water bowl, a poo bag dispenser and two training treats – Bella showed no change in gait, no sign of awareness of the load and no attempts to remove the pack across the full three miles. The reflective strip was checked at dusk on the return leg and caught the beam clearly. The outer was wiped clean after a muddy shortcut through a field; it came up completely clean in one pass. A second walk loaded with a 500ml water bottle in each pocket was completed without complaint. Workshop test: both zippers were cycled three hundred times and held; all four buckle points were load-tested at twice Bella’s pack weight and held.

Her verdict: she walked to the door and waited to be fitted on the third outing, which is the most unambiguous product endorsement in the test programme.
