Tested by Maggie, our Junior Tester · a young Labradoodle who treats winter as something to dash through between breakfast and home again. The jacket needed to keep pace, and it did: she wore it through a fortnight of cold, damp, muddy mornings; the water-resistant outer shed rain and river-water alike, the reflective trim caught headlights on dimly lit walks, and the belly strap stayed secure through every bound and scramble. The grey jersey cowl never irritated her neck, and when she came home filthy, the jacket went straight into the machine and dried soft without losing its shape. In the workshop the buckle was fastened and unfastened a hundred times, the seams were tested at points of strain, and the padding was machine-washed and held its loft throughout.

Her verdict: winter solved.
