Tested by Baxter, our Head of Lead & Harness Testing – a young male black Labrador with a glossy short coat and an athletic build that tends to set the pace on any walk. The Leather Lead in Black was used across twelve walks over three weeks. The cowhide leather was stiff on day one and had softened noticeably to the hand by day seven – the correct trajectory for genuine leather. Both handle positions were used: the main loop for standard walking pace and the forehand circle on three occasions when other dogs approached. The 360° swivel buckle did not tangle once across the full trial. The braided reinforcement at the clip end was checked after three weeks and showed no sign of wear. Workshop test: the swivel buckle was load-tested at three times Baxter’s body weight and held.

His verdict: he covered his usual routes at his usual pace without any change in behaviour, which is the best possible report a lead can receive.
