Tested by Baxter, our Head of Lead & Harness Testing – a young male black Labrador with a glossy short coat, an athletic build and a firmly held view that two dogs are always better than one. The Double Lead in Dark Grey was tested over a fortnight of morning walks with Baxter on one cord and a borrowed Spaniel on the other. The handle sat comfortably in one hand throughout and the two brake buttons were easy to distinguish by feel: the orange button controlled Baxter, the green the Spaniel, and locking one while extending the other took a few outings to master before becoming instinctive. The cords retracted smoothly on both reels and showed no tangling on the first three walks; after that the technique improved enough that tangling became rare rather than occasional. The LED was tested in the dark on an early morning; it was visible from across the road. The bell attachments were noted by a passing cyclist who gave more space than usual. Workshop-tested to two hundred retractions on each reel: consistent throughout.

His verdict: he covered more ground with less fuss than on any previous double-dog trial.
