Bath time is easier when the dog stays still. The Bath Hook is a strong press-button suction cup with a carabiner hook, designed to mount on any smooth bathtub, shower or tiled wall and hold a lead taut while you wash, rinse and groom without a second pair of hands. Press the mount flat against a clean smooth surface, click the button to lock it, and clip your existing lead to the carabiner – the cup holds firm and your dog holds position. The mechanism releases cleanly when you press the button again, leaves no mark on the surface and repositions in seconds. Useful in the bath, the shower, or anywhere with a smooth wall. Sold as single units or in packs of two, five or ten – handy for groomers, multi-dog households or anyone who loses things. Note: suction cups require a smooth, flat, clean surface to work correctly; they will not grip porous, curved or unclean surfaces. Lead not included.

Tested by Woody, our Large Breed Tester – a large adult male brindle Great Dane, tall, lean and dignified, who accepts bath time with the resigned composure of a dog who has been through this before. The Bath Hook was pressed to the smooth enamel wall of the bath, clicked into position, and Woody’s lead clipped to the carabiner. It held without shifting through an entire wash, a rinse and a second rinse, and the cup showed no sign of pulling away from the wall under the load of a very large dog doing a moderate amount of fidgeting. The button released cleanly at the end, the cup left no mark, and it was repositioned three inches to the left for the second trial without any reduction in hold. In the workshop it was mounted and released thirty times on both enamel and smooth ceramic tile; performance was consistent throughout.

His verdict: marginally more dignified than being held by hand, and that counts for something.
